• Classic Essentials

Here’s the thing. If you haven’t noticed from my outfit posts yet, my style has veered a little bit into the minimalistic direction. As much as I used to enjoy incorporating patterns and colours when I was younger, I slightly cringe at the sight of a yellow dress or an aztec jumper. I love how other people can seem to make these work but sticking to the basics is how I see my style evolving into the near future. I’d much rather stick to the blues and greys…and of course black.

Here are, what I believe to be, the essential items in every wardrobe. Whether you’re a minimalist gal or prefer the wilder side, keep on reading. Every wardrobe can use some classic basics so it really is a win, win situation.

    1. Basic Tops– Black, white and grey are the classics. A striped tee is also necessary for us minimalists to go that extra mile and make our wardrobe seem a little more exciting to the outside world. You can basically create any look with a crisp white top and they’re perfect for layering too!
    2. Roll Necks– This winter I have been absolutely obsessed with roll necks! They keep you warm and comfy and there are so many styles and fits to suit all body shapes. Personally, I’m not a fan of the tight, ribbed roll necks but I simply adore an oversized roll neck jumper.
    3. Black Jeans– Whenever I’m out of the house, I’m bound to be wearing a black jeans. It’s so easy to dress up and down with no questions asked. I recently purchased a black Levis jeans (you’ll see more of this later!) and I think I’m in love!
    4. Classic Trench– I’ve yet to wear my Zara trench which I bought during the sales but I think it’s such a classic piece to have in your wardrobe. You can never go wrong with a trench coat.
    5. Chelsea Boots– I’m still on the hunt for my perfect pair so if you’ve seen a breathtaking chelsea booty, please holla! I’m not a fan of high heels so thank heavens I can still look decent and presentable with a pair of such boots.
    6. Classic Sunglasses– We’re blessed with good weather almost all year round so these might come in handy on our dear little island.
    7. Classic Watch– In other words, a Daniel Wellington watch! Don’t forget that there’s a 15% discount going on www.danielwellington.com if you enter SPLASHESOFDW at the checkout. Offer lasts till the 29th Feb!

I would love to try out a capsule wardrobe soon! More on that later!
