The cold weather has officially started here in Malta, so I’m here, writing this blog post while sipping a mug of warm herbal mint tea and nibbling a chocolate chia cookie. I suggest you do the same because I’m here to talk about my favourite foundation at the moment, CHANEL Perfection Lumière Velvet Foundation.

I have been on the hunt for the perfect foundation and, I’m going to be honest with you, I was looking for a high-end product rather than something from the drugstore. There are a LOT of good foundations which I love from drugstore brands but I’ve had my eye on a particular high-end foundation for quite some time now. I was originally going for the CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua which is very similar to the Lumière Velvet but with one main difference. I bought my foundation from FRANKS (The Point) and the very helpful salesperson shifted my view from the Aqua to the Velvet since it is specifically targeted to oily skin. Now I wouldn’t consider my skin as being oily but I do get some occasional oily patches around my T-zone, nose and cheek area. Using the Vitalumière Aqua would result in a lot of powdering and I didn’t want the hassle of worrying that my face is looking like a shiny bulb every time I’m out of the house.

CHANEL describe this foundation as being ‘lightweight and oil-free’ leaving a smooth matte-velvet finish and they’ve summed it up perfectly. I don’t like foundations which feel heavy on the skin. I like the au naturale look. But I also like coverage as I have a few acne scars which I wouldn’t mind hiding. This foundation is perfect skin in a bottle. It can be described as one of those my-skin-but-better products. I was amazed by how smooth it feels on the skin. It’s like you have no make-up on! Then again, it’s a matte finish but it’s not one of those matte foundations that look cakey on the skin. Lumière Velvet looks very natural. Although, throughout the day the matte finish slightly wears off, you’re still left with a smooth skin-like finish.

What I think makes it so lightweight is that the formula is water-based. It’s very important to shake the bottle well before use as the foundation is really thin. I find it best to apply this foundation using my fingers and then blend certain areas, such as around the nose and forehead, with a beauty blender. Although applying foundation using my hands is not my favourite way of application, I found the skin soaks this up easily when blended with my fingertips.

And can we just stop and admire the sleek packaging? Although it’s bound to get dirty with foundation hands, the stains are easily wiped off to showcase the beautiful black bottle. Plus, it’s super small and light which makes it perfect for travelling.

Retailing at €41.50 from FRANKS and all other outlets that stock CHANEL products, this is definitely going to be a re-purchase for me.
